Heavy rain fell last night, yrith the result that the going at the first day .of the .Jiawkes May Jockey Club s autumn meeting will be heavy, lias morning broke dull and threatening, but tile weather is now eicai Ligand ■ the. prospects are for. a fine day. To-day is a “red-letter” day in uie history of the turf in this district, the occasion being the opening ot the Jockey-Club’s now buildings, including a grandstand-seating loUO,au official s stand, a tea kiosk and a- totalizator house, which were erected at a coZt of £3S,OUU. The appointments are now as up-to-date as any in the Dominion. A record attendance is anticipated. .The Government will bo represented at the opening ceremony by the Hons. W. Eraser, Minister.for Public Works, and H. D. Bell, Minister for Internal Affairs, and a contingent representing 'both branches of the Legislature will also bo present. The results are as follows:
