Second Edition. LOCAL AND GENERAL.
There vwill be a football practice on the showgrounds to-morrow at 3 o’clock, when all players are requested to attend. This morning, upon the motion of the Canterbury District Law Society (states the Press Association), the Court of Appeal at Wellington made an absolute order to strike Walter Shaw, of Timarn, off the rolls of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. There is a movement on foot among the “south-of-the-bridgo” , ratepayers to stir things up in municipal affairs, and with this object a preliminary meeting was held last night. The busiuess done has not been divulged to the press, but it is understood that all the interests of the South will receive particular attention at the hands of . the body whenever considered advisable. And as a means of consolidating members, no doubt, the holding of a public meeting to consider loan - matter's and . general is on tire cards for Thursday, the 14th inst.
