The seventh biennial movable conference of the Manchester I nily Oddfellows opened this morning, delegates being present from all parts of /New Zealand, (.rand Master d. Clark | presiding. The Grand Master and 'the Hoard of .Directors presented their (report for the past term, which showled that the \ew Zealand branch had (made good progress. He the ques- - 11 ion ol a compnlsory scheme ol social I insurance the report says: “Whether !t he scheme submitted by the Government is to be sn])ported by the Society is to be decided by this conference, but the committee is strongly of opinion, should the Government determine to bring in a compnlsory scheme of social insurance or for a subvention, that the friendly societies should be requested and assisted to convene a conference to consider the question before its being determined by Parliament.
