The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. SATURDAY, MAY 2, 1914. FOOD EXPORTS TO BRITAIN.

In the last number of the Journal of Agriculture some interesting tables !aro published, and one of them, referring to the Dominion’s exports to Britain, compiled front manifests of vessels that sailor! during the respective months of the current and preceding seasons, is of especial importance. It shows that for the first three months of this year the exports of mutton, lamb, beef, butter, cheese and wool are all largely in excess of the exports made during the first throe months of 1913, and such figures must accordingly be taken as most satisfactory from the standpoint of the man on the land. They are most pleasing evidence of prosperity, and there is no apparent reason why this prosperity should not continue, j In the first, quarter of 1914, New Zealand sent to Britain 1,032,478 carcases of mutton ; 1,349,705 carcases of lamb; and 81,213 quarters of beef, as against 597,275 carcases of mutton ; 843,013 carcases of iamb, and 26,580 quarters of beef in the first three months of 1913. In each instance, it will be noted, the increases for this year are very large. Taking the same periods we despatched 331,289 bales of wool to London this year, ns against 296,615 in the first jquartor of 1913. In the, dairy pro-! jduco division there is also a great advance shown, the figures given being 298,122 boxes of butter and 258,1 350 crates of cheese for January, (February and March ol this year, as against 215,909 boxes of butter an:l 205,441 crates of cheese despatched during tho same period ol 1913. It also appears from the table referred ;to that while no crates of rabbit* were iout Home in the first part of 1913, we managed to export 2851 crate* m January of the preseut year.
