All hope of rescuing 203 entombed miners' at Eccles has been abandoned, as flames drive back the rescuers. • SIXTY-SEVEN RESCUED. A MELANCHOLY REPORT. (Received 11.55 a.m.) Washington, April 29. Sixty-seven were rescued alive from the New River colliery after all hope had been abandoned. A hundred and seventy are still entombed behind the flames. The mine authorities are alfraid that there is. not the slightest hope. Eight dead were found.
