The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 1914. THE PROPER SPIRIT.

In the heat of the Mayoralty hattle this year at Stratford some things were said and done which might well have been left alone. After the result of the poll last night, -Mr W. P. Kirkwood, who again has the honor of being elected to the Mayoralty for a third term in succession, referred to this fact in a kindly and proper spirit, and, in heartily congratulating His Worship upon his victory, we must also compliment him upon his well-chosen words and the sentiment expressed. The contest was certainly a closer tussle than many people anticipated. Mr N. J. King's congratulations to Mr Kirkwood were made in manly fashion and his promise of loyal support in all matters which he holds to be in the town's true interests, a proper one. It is to be hoped that both inside and outside the Council these expressions will be noted and the advice given acted upon. Life is too short lor time to be wasted in petty squabbling, and time so occupied would be infinitely bettor employed in working for the public good. There must always be perfectly honest differences of opinion on many matters of daily life, and fair and reasonable argument to indicate the rightnoss of any view is always welcome. Tho unfortunate part is that some people never allow for tho possibility that they may, on even rare occasion, be wrong in the view taken. Toleration is well worth cultivating.
