ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION.
SHACKLETON’S EXPEDITION. - .. y:/- . • {By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) [United Press Association.] London, April 25. Sir Ernest Shackleton was the guest of the Pilgrims’ Cluh. He sketched his plans for landing from the Weddell Sea in the second week in December with sufficient food for the whole trans-continental journey. Each daily ration, of the highest nutritive value, will weigh 35 ounces. He remarked that the £45,000 spent ■ on the last expedition would within three years be by the magnetic work accomplished. Observations ncaj the magnetic pole showed that variations of lines pu.the charts used by ships southward of the Equator were slightly wrong. The correction enabled ships to 'save two hours of their journey; Emphasising the importance of meteorology, he mentioned that a dense ice season in the Weddell Sea meant heavy rains in Chili and Argentina. This year’s open season in Weddell Sea had led ro lighter rains in Argentina. If observations were taken over a series of years, farmexs and stock breeders in the Argentina would be able to more or less regulate their water supplies.
