HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, April 20. The High Commissioner’s market report states:— Mutton.—Tho market is very dull, having been unfavorably affected by largo arrivals of mutton and chilled beef. There is no demand for heavy weight. Canterbury 4 j ]d, North Island 4 |d, both for light weight ewes 3|dd. The lamb market is steady, the demand being chiefly for light weight, with dull sale for heavy carcases. Canterbury 6|d, heavy weights s|d, other than Canterbury Cd for light weight. There is a limited demand for poorer grades, which are. in competition with Australian. Beef.—The market is unsettled. New Zealand hinds 4sd, fores 3Jd. Butter,—The market is quiet, the demand being chiefly for best quality. There is a limited demand for poorer grades. The Danish market is quiet at per cwt 114 s to 116 s, New Zealand, in increasing demand, 100* to 108 s, unsalted, for which the demand exceeds the supply, 114 sto 118 s, Australian in fair demand at 100 s to 104 s, Argentine, in poor demand, 96s to 106 s, Siberian, in moderate demand 100 s to 104 s.
Cheese.—Tho market is quiet but steady. The Canadian stock is small, and prices are nominal. Canadian white per cwt. 68s to 70s; colored, 69s to 71 s.j New Zealand finest white, 61. s6d to 625; fine white, 60s 6d to 6ls; finest colored, 64a to 64s 6d; fine colored, 62s to 63s 6d; Australian white, 60s; colored, 62s to 635; secondary, 58s to 595.
