ADULTERATED MILK.
A WELLINGTON CASE. [Per Press Association.! Wellington, April 17. "It certainly looks all right," commented Mr Cooper, S.M., to-day after having examined a sample of adulterated milk .which contained 29 per cent, of water and annatto. The milk was of an exceptionally rich color, due, it was stated, to tho presence of the annatto. The milk was a sample from tho stock of a woman vendor charged on two informations witli selling adulterated milk. The defendant, who stated she was deceived by the color of the liquid, swore she sold it in exactly the same condition as sho received it. Tho prosecution stated that there was every reason to believe the woman, but the onus of selling the milk was on her. In the mitigating circumstances His Worship imposed a fine of £l, with costs 7s, in respect of one charge, and convicted and discharged the defendant on the other information.
