TEACHING PROFESSION.
MATTER OF LIVING WAGE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] Times and Sydney Sun Services. (Received 8 a.m.) London, April 14. At the teachers’ conference, the president, Mr Steere, stated that the dearth of teachers was due to the want of attractiveness of the profession, chiefly in regard to poor pay. The average salary of the certificated headmaster was £146, and the mistresses £lOl. There were 14,000 fully qualified teachers not earning a living wage.
