Many gorgeous costumes were paraded, but hobble and split skirts were conspicuous by their absence. Generally speaking, the New Zealand competitors disappointed their supporters. Sydney, April 13. There was a greater crowd than on Saturday, when the attendance was estimated at 45,000. The sky was absolutely cloudless, and the weather conditions were ideal. The field included horses from New South Wales, Victoria, AVestern Australia, and New Zealand. All got away well. Lilyveil galloping beautifully, gradually drew ahead and increased her lead right along to the post, which she passed four lengths ahead of Multifoil, who was two or. three lengths ahead of Belove. Barlow was a good fourth. Sinapis contested the last place, with Aurifer, beating him by half a length. Midnight Sun was never prominent. Time, 3min 26^sec.
