BOWLING.
THE STRATFORD CLUB. Yesterday was an all-day occasion for the local club, two matches being played with Fitzroy. The previous day’s rain had made the green soft, and it was ten o’clock before a start could be made, but it was surprising in what a tine condition the green was, thanks to the caretaker and his assistant who put in a lot of solid work as soon as the green was nt to get on to. Although a shade heavy at the opening of the game, the sward livened up considerably under the sun’s influence, and there was little to complain of. The result of the game was a win for the visitors by 13 points, the following being the detailed scores, t itzroy being mentioned first in each case: Heel, drivers, Healy (a) 26 v. At the conclusion of play, the usual complimentary speeches were exchanged, Mr Healy speaking on behalf of the visitors, and Mr G. Smart for the homo club. The visitors seemed very pleased with the hospitable treament accorded them, and Mr Healy did not forget to say so. He also expressed the wish that homo-and-home matches would in future be played between the two clubs-—a sentiment which was heartily endorsed by the Stratford vice-president in his remarks. Cheers were exchanged on both sides. There was a fine gathering of spectators, both friends of the visitors and the home players, quite a number of ladies and small fry giving to the surroundings a picturesque and homely appearance.
