Barthou told him that his former wife had shown Barthou the stolen letters. When confronted with Caillaux yesterday, Barthou denied the incident, and said he was unaware of the existence of the letters until Calmette’s death. THE INQUIRY CONTINUED. (Received 8.30 a.m.) Paris, April 10. At the Magisterial inquiry, M. Vidal a publicist, confirmed the statement that The Figaro intended to publish three of M. Caillaux’s letters, and added that M. Calmette was seeking evidence of M. Caillaux’s connection with the case of Prieu, a South American millionaire, whose heirs are claiming an estate from tho French Government. Calmette alleged that Caillaux offered the heirs part if they agreed to Caillaux getting the remaindor of the estate.
