“WHERE TO GO.”
ON EASTER MONDAY. It is perhaps a little late for the “Post” to indicate to readers how to spend their Easter holidays. A good many had their minds made np on the question months ago, and are at present away from Stratford visiting relations or friends in all parts of both Islands. And for the past few days the exodus has been fairly heavy and persistent, not only from Stratford, but from more northerly stations, tiie mail train each morning being long and fairly well crowded. But there are other residents whoso busiess or inclination has kept them in Stratford, and they will bo looking for something to occupy their time on Monday, when the whole world and his wife, child, aunt, uncle, nephew, etc., will be bent on spending a pleasant day. To Stratford people the chief attraction, naturally, will ho the A. and P. Association’s Gymkhana, which is to be held on the showgrounds. Residents have been present at this function previously, so that there is no necessity to mention that a good day’s enjoyment is assured. Operations will commence at 9 a.m. with the sheep dog trial, and things will bo kept going merrily throughout the day. Excellent entries have been received for the two trottting events on the programme, and the big fields in the jumping events promise excellent competition. There are seveteen entries in the dog trial, and in the afternoon some of the host dogs will give an exhibition.
For those who desire to go abroad there is the gala on New Plymouth East End beach, the chief attraction at which will he a big tug-of-war competition. Swimming races will also be held, in addition to a variety of competitions, while the usual attractions for children will be in full swing. Bowlers will spend the day on the green, the. Stratford and Pihama Clubs trying conclusions on the local green. A dance, which is to be held in the Midhirst Public Hall in the evening, will prove an excellent finish to the day for followers of the “light fantastic.”
