I EAST RIDING MEMBERS. COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION. The affairs of the Stratford County Council have boon freely discussed since the last meeting of the Council, when Messrs AValter and Were, the representatives of the East Hiding, resigned their seats, following on the defeat of a motion regarding the Engineer's position. The resigned members held meetings at Douglas and Toko and explained to the ratepayers at length their attitude on the question. They were re-nominated, and Messrs J. A. Stanford and X. B. Fry|day were also nominated; and a good contest was looked for. Air Stanford failed to get within reach of the leaders, but Air Fryday was only fifteen votes behind Air Were. At Toko the must votes were cast, the resigned members and Air Fryday being fairly equally supported. At Huiroa there was only a difference of two between the highest and lowest of the. four candidates, but at Douglas Messrs Were and Walter received a big majority of the votes. As might be expected, Air Fryday polled highest at the Stratford booth, though all the candidates polled fairly equally. Following is the final result of the polling-: AVALTER, Edward ... 113 WERE, W. H 107 FRYDAY. XL B. ... ... 92 STANFORD, J. A. ... 17
