OHURA NEWS.

(“Ohura Advocate,” April 3.) It mutt necessardily follow the cutting down of the number of ridings in the Ohura County to seven that two at least of the present Councillors will he absent from the new Council to lie elected in a few months’ time. So far the only new aspirant for local government honors we have heard mentioned is -Air li. S. Robertson, our well-known builder and contractor. “Louie” promises to give the ratepayers some of the straighest talk they have yet heard from a public platform. He intends to contest the Turoto seat. An important matter that is ocaipying the attention of settlers in the Waikato and King Country districts at the present time is the establishment of freezing works in a central position to best serve the large uid ever-increasing fat stock output of these important parts of the Dominion. Some time ago a meeting ,\as held in Hamilton and the project was taken up very enthusiastically. Due of the provisional directors (Mr Cooper) will lie at Ohura on Wednesday next (the first day of the dog trials) and will lie pleased to meet any .-■.ofctlers arid talk matters over. He has ■idressed meetings and met with much encouragement in other centres, and probably it will he arranged for him to address a meeting here. Mr A. M. Costain, Methodist Home Missionor, who has been stationed in Ohura County for about 12 months, has received a call to Amberley, in the South Island, and takes his departure in a few days. Among his Attainments lie can preach a sensible ;ermon and sing a good song. Altogether, he is a real good sort, and we iopa to see a good number present t the church this evening to give him i fitting farewell. His successor, Air ;-T. Ford, arrived here on Wednesday.

MEMBER FOR THE DISTRICT,

Mr C. K. Wilson, Member for the listrict (accompanied by Mrs Wilson), ,eing on a walking tour through the igckhlocks, arrived at Tntu on Ihurs!ay, 26th March, after a day’s walk if 20 miles through the Tangarakau dorge. At the request of the settlers, Mr Wilson met a large gathering in the Hall on Thursday night, including a lumber from Tokirima, I uroto Xload ind Mahorahora. Mr W. S. Currie presided. Mr Geange referred to the importnice of connecting the telephone line letween Tatu and Tahorii and cited in instance of how the sunder of an irgent wire left I‘ahora at th'c same nine with a moo of sheep and I, arrived it .Tatu before the wire. Mr Wilson sard he fully' realised' the Importance of linking up the telephone between Tatu and Tahora, and thereby ‘stabUsh throflgh telephonic •comnfuuicafcion, and be would seek the assistance of Mr Hine in urging the conueci.irmi. iimm >'• jii'Hf) vui tiou. We are asked ,to correct a false impression in connection with the abo\ e visit;. -Some-aije saying ho,got to within a few miles, of Ohnra township and thou “funked. ’’ As a'matter of fact lie did not sot out to visit here—his arrangements were for a tour in -the hack parts through the Tangarakau, thence to Tokirima and on to Ankopae, and Mr Wilson (accompanied by Mrs Wilson on a walking tour) has faithfully carried them out. For some time it has been his intention to visit Ohnra before the opening of next session of Parliament, and we understand he intends to adhere to this.
