The Times says: “The sinking fund for the Queensland loan, and for several recent colonial issues, is inadequate to provide for x'edemption at maturity. For their own sakes, as well as in the stockholders’ interests, it will be well for colonial Governments to regulate their loan operations on sound and conservative lines. Their stocks enjoy a more favorable market than almost any other class %f securities, and it will be to their - advantage to prove themselves worthy of that exceptional favor. . •; •, . \ ■ HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The High Commissioner’s market report, dated April 4th, states inter alia:— Butter.—The market is dull, with a downward tendency. The Danish market is steady, but quiet at 122 s and 1245; New Zealand, dull, 105 s to 108 s; Argentine, dull, 100 s to 104 s; Siberian, fair demand, 106 s to 109 s; Australian, slow, 102 s to 106 s. Cheese.—The market is quiet, with prices slightly weaker. Canadian white per cwt. 68s to 70s, colored 69s to 71s; New Zealand, finest white, 61s to 625, fine white 60s to 61s, finest colored 64s to 64s 6d, fine colored 63s to 63s 6d; Australian 60s to 635. It is estimated that the Canadian cheese stocks in London, Liverpool and Bristol at April Ist totalled 73,000 boxes as against 115,000 at the same date last year. New Zealand and Australian stocks at London and Bristol are 77,000 crates, against 50,000 at the same date last year. 'Wool.—The market for merinos is firm, with crossbreds easier. Prices: 36’s low crossbreds 16fd, 50’s halfbreds 16id> quarterbreds 23d, 44’s medium crossbreds 17d, 60’s merinos 28Jd. «
