London, March 31. i An explosion of a benzine tank at i Wardman and Holden’s chemical works, Manchester, resulted in the destruction of seven acres of works. Two hundred police kept the crowds back. Many explosions of creosote, napthaline and sulphuric acid occurred and the flames were a hundred feet high. Flames made it difficult for the firemen to work. Tons of sulphuric acid were turned into the street sew r ers for safety. A thousand factory workmen escaped by the windows. BRITISH REVENUE FOR THE YEAR. London, April 1. The Customs revenue was £35,450,000; excise duty, £39,590,000; death duties, £27,359,000; stamps, £9,966,000; property and income tax, £47,249,000.
