DRUNK AT THE SPORTS.

MATIERE ivtE’ito FINED. At 10.30 a.m. on Friday last, says the latest issue of the Olmra Advocate, a Police. Court sitting was hold at'e Matiere, when a number of first offenders were changed with being drunk at Niho Niho on the sth and Gift March. Sergeant, Miller represented the police" and prosecuted. In outlining the cases he stated to the Bench that after the Niho Niho Sports on the sth March drunks were prevalent and their conduct was a disgrace to the district, especially on account of being in the' vicinitf of a sports meeting where women and children were about; and he asked the Bench to assist the police to the. utmost rigour of the lav in all such cases, as the wmfstabhv was at these meetings often on his ami must ho assisted by 'toward the ;;ood behaviour of the district, and he pressed to have the full penalty. Mr T.j de Vere Hunt, J.P., resided, and'stiated that he would assist in every way, and in a?! cases from this date would fine them the full penally. Buk-on this occasion, being the sports meeting, he would take this batch of offenders into consideration and deal with them a little easier, but if they came before him again he would impose the full amount the law would allow. ■ :
