There was perfect weather. Cambridge chose the Surrey side, and, rowing admirably, forged ahead from the start. They had two lengths' lead at Harrods. Oxford gamely but ineffectually struggled to reduce the lead, but Cambridge easily held them, and the race was a procession from Hammersmith, despite Oxford's spurts, of the Oxonians were
distressed, '-''f Cambridge paddled home -H nlnmd in 20min 23sec.
Am impromptu stand on a barge at Hammersmith collapsed. A hundred were thrown into the barge, and fourteen had limbs seriously fractured. Seven were sent to hospital. In 1913 the race went to Oxford, for the fifth consecutive time. Oxford has now won 39 times, and Cambridge 31. In 1877 the race resulted in a dead heat.
