Militant Suffragettes.
A HIGH TIME AT POPLAR;
COUNCILLORS ATTACKED. [ißt Electric Tblecuaph- -OoPTEieStJ [United Press Association.'] (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, March. 27.
At the Poplar Council, during tin* discussion as to whether the Council should let the halls to suffragettes when it was. moved that the question, he now put, suffragettes shouted: “Cowards!” and hurled scores of stinkpots, hags of flour, and ocher missiles from the gallery.
* Women broke down the barrier and engaged in a hand-to-hand conflict with the councillors, attempting to use the chairs as weapons, while sonie possessed life preservers.
The police were called in, hut refused to enter on the ground that they were of insufficient strength. The majority of the councillors turned, and the disturbance was quelled, but the conduct of business was impossible.
