SAWYER'S BAY SHOOTING.

WOMAN'S TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

[Pee Press Association, j

Dunedin, March 23.

Further particulars concerning the shooting incident at Sawyer's Bay yesterday show that Green went to Perry's house, where his wife was housekeeper, and, with Perry's consent, entered the kitchen. Green asked his wife to go for a walk, as he had something to say to her. She refused, and he produced a revolver. She threw her hands up to protect her head, and realised that she had been shot in the hands and the upper portion of the body. Green pulled out a razor and made a lunge at her, but she dashed for the back door, which she managed to get open. She scrambled over the back fence, and fell into a vacant section adjoining. The only reason she could give for her husband's behaviour is that she declined to live with him until he pro-' vided herself and- children with a home. : &'

She had two wounds on the top'of, the head, and on the shoulder, where the bullets had passed through and afterwards penetrated her neck below the angle of the jaw. On the left side thre were two wounds in the scalp above the left ear, and the comb she was.wearing had been smashed to pieces.. There was also a wound on. the left thumb, evidently- made bullet passing through it.

Green then went to Port Chalmers, and gave himself up to the police. Accused is about 35 years of age.

On examining the kitchen where the shooting occurred, a constable found a bullet embedded in the cupboard door, about five feet a'aove tlie floor. Another bullet had struck the-window sill, and, glancing up, nad shattered the window pane. Two spent bullets were found on the floor. A six-cham-bered American Bulldog revolver, which he purchased on Saturday, was used by the accussed.

Green was formally charged at Port Chalmers this morning with attempted wife murder, and was remanded to appear at Dunedin on Monday next.

The bullets have been extracted from Mrs Green's neck and shoulders, and she is now progressing towards recoverv.
