- Mr E. P. Cox has been appointed secretary of the Egmont A. and P. Association. The many friends of M r G. E. Ireland, will be sorry to learn thau he is at present confined to his bed through an attack of pleurisy and pneumonia.
Mr H. J. Turner, a well-known and highly respected citizen, of Wanganui, died suddenly on Saturday morning ; aged Co. Deceased resided for 45 years in the Dominion. He took part in the Maori War, and had resided in Wanganui for fifteen years, being latterly in the cycle business. Some years ago he took nn active part in public affairs.—P A.
Mr John Treweek, of Stuart Road, South Taranaki, died on Saturday, at the ripe age of 78 years. Mr Treweek landed in New Plymouth by the ship Timandra on February 24, 1842, and settled in New Plymouth. He was one of 212 passengers by the same ship. After residing in New' Plymouth for two years he went with his people to Canterbury and Otago for a few years, but later 'returned to Taranaki, and had been continuously here for years. When he arrived in New Plymouth the town consisted of four wholesale and retail establishments, two hotels, and 120 raupo and cob huts. Mr Treweek is survived by a widow, one son (Mr W. Treweek, Mangawhero Road, Eltham), and four daughters—Mi's C. Newsham (Bay of Plenty), Mrs Mildenhall (Opunake), Mrs Secamp (Eltham), and Mrs H. Cl. Gibson (Eltham). —Star.
