THE PANAMA CANAL.
TOLLS EXEMPTION.
By Electric Telegraph— Copyright') [United Press Association.] (Received 11.5 a.m.) Washington, March 18.
Senator Jones, speaking in the Senate, said the president was determined to.secure a repeal of the tolls exemption because he recently conferred with Sir Lionel Carden (British Minister in Mexico), when an agreement was reached that Britain should assist the United States to maintain the Monroe Doctrine, which the Mexican situation threatened to repeal. The tolls exemption was the price of non-interference of other nations in Mexico. Such foreign policy was cowardly and craven to the last degree. Senator Jones assented that the whole agitation was due to the Canadian Pacific Railway’s interest.
