REGARDING THE DEPORTEDS.

[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright [United Peebs Association.] (Received 8.55 a.m.) Capetown, March 18.

A movement is contemplated for extraditing Kendall, one of the strike leaders who escaped. In the Senate, on the third reading of the Indemnity Bill, Mr Smuts stated that though the deporteds did not have a trial in the ordinary sense of the word, they had several weeks’ trial before Parliament; therefore they had received substantial justice. Mr Smuts informed the Assembly that there had been no special agreement for indemnifying the steamer Umgenn against any action. The owners received the amount of ordinary fares with £IOOO to compensate them for the loss of freight.

(Received 8.40 a.m.)

Capetown, March 18
