THE MEXICAN CRISIS.
FEDERALS V. REBELS.

A despatch from Chihuahua states that a battle at Torreou has commenced. A detachment of Federals marching out from the town engaged the rebel outposts during the night. A rigid censorship is being observed.
PATROLLING THE FRONTIER.
New York, March 17
Following upon the destruction by fire of the United States Customs and Post Office at Tecate, in California, the United States authorities have declared mai’tial law around the neighborhood of the outrages, which, it is alleged, were committed by Mexicans.
American troops are now patrolling the frontier. The Governor of California is likely to demand that the Mexicans be given up to justice. There is much ill-feeling between Americans and Mexicans in the neighborhood. BENTON’S DEATH. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] Times, and Sydney Sun Services. ' Loudon, March 17. Mr F. D. Aclaud, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, interrogated, declared that since it was mpossible for a commission to cross the frontier, the examination of Benton’s body has had to be abandoned.
