TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE.
Mr Newton King’s Report.
On Tuesday, March 10th, I held my usual four-weekly sale of above produce, the catalogue comprising :-482 bales and 162 sacks wool, 1687 sheepskips, 548 hides, 11 casks and 46' tins tallow, 180 calfskins, and the usual assortment of hair, tails, etc. There was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was very keen throughout the offering:— Wool.—ln sympathy with the rise in the recent London sales there was
a sharp advance in prices. Good’ bright clean lines of lambs wool were ‘ 3d per lb dearer’, whilst fleece was id 1 to |d per lb higher. The hulk of the' wool catalogued, however, carried a 1 fair amoufit of utuwai seed, badly j seedy being not wanted and hard to ’
'•quit. ■ j Sheepskins.—Consequent on the rise in vrool prices, these showed a corresponding advance under brisk competition. Full wool skins were 3d per Jb higher, lamb skins I d to j'd, ! 3-wool 3d ami pelts Id to l.Jd per lb higher. j Hides.—An excited market with an • unsatisfied demand. Ox advanced 3d to l|d per lb, cow id to fd, and yearlings 2d to 2£d per II). [ Tallow.—Very firm, par to ss,higher. '■■■■■■)
Calfskins.—Very fejv now offering. Values 4d higher.
