LINERS AT MOTUROA.

A DEFINITE ANNOUNCEMENT. The New Plymouth Harbor Board lias now made something in the nature of a definite announcement as to when the full requirements of the shipping companies, requirements which by some people, including the Board’s consulting engineer, are deemed somewhat unreasonable, will be fully complied with at the port at Moturoa. At the February meeting of the Board, the question was brought forIward by Mr Newton King, who stated that there was a movement on foot to establish a freezing works between New Plymouth and Stratford, and that this would actually be done when the Board gave an assurance as to when it uould be possible for ships capable of carrying frozen meat to the English market to enter Now Plymouth harbor. He moved that this assurance be given at the next meeting of the Board, and this was carried. At the conclusion of yesterday’s meeting of the Board (says the News), the members adjourned to the breakwater to go into the question, and on their return the following statement was handed to the press;— The superintendent of works reported in November last that he anticipated that he would he able to carry out the work providing for the full requirements of the shipping companies as to berthage, swinging basin and approach, to enable ocean liners to trade to the port in 14 months from that date. During the four' months which have since elapsed, the dredging has proceeded at a slightly greater rate than was anticipated, and therefore there is no reason to suppose that the work will take longer than anticipated. In any case, the Board is satisfied that all the requirements of the shipping companies will be completed in ample time for the season commencing in the spring of 1915,
