MINISTER INTERVIEWED.

The Hon. W. H. Kerries, Minister for Railways, is visiting the district to-day. Replying to a deputation with reference to the Opunake railway, Mr Horries said the intention was that the £16,000 voted on the Estimates should -he spent at once. The route would he decided by the Premier, the Minister for Public Works and the Engineer-in-Chief.

Sir G. V. Pearce, M.P., waited upon the Minister for Railways this morning with reference to a complaint as to a shortage of trucks. The Minister replied that the present trouble was caused through the want of haulage power. A number of locomotives were on order or being built in the workshops. When the orders were fulfilled the position would, no doubt, be relieved.

THE EAST COAST LINE.

The Harbour Board lias decided to purchase a dredge for the purpose of constructing an embankment across the inner harbor, and (expect to make a start with the work, which is to carry the East Coast railway line, within three months.
