FIRES.
DAMAGE TO A HOTEL.

A fire was discovered in the Shakespeare Hotel at midnight, when flames burst through the floor of an attic occupied by two waitresses. About thirty persons were sleeping in the hotef, in addition to the licensee and staff, but all escaped in their night attire. When the Brigade arrived, the flames had hurst through the hotel roof, but were suppressed within a quarter of an hour. Much damage was done, chiefly by water.
