A MISAPPREHENSION.

)' [To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir, —With reference to Mr Porritt’s letter, I would ask you to kindly give space to the enclosed copy of the letter sent to the Hon. Mr Fraser, Minister for Public Works. The said lettei represents the report of the Lighting Committee, which was adopted by the Council. In no way doe stho report reflect personally on Mr Porritt, who we all recognise as a gentleman of high integrity. I am sorry that Mr Porritt should have any misapprehension on the matter, and ask you to publish the report to clear the matter up.— 1 am, etc., W. P. KIRKWOOD, Mayor. Stratford, 15th March, 1914.

[Copy.] The Hon. the Minister of Public Works, Wellington. PROPOSED ISSUE OF LICENSE. Sir, —In reply to your favor of 12th ult. advising particulars of petition presented, by County ratepayers,- my Council directs me to advise you that while my Council has no wish to impede the issue of a license applicable to an area outside the Borough only, they are of opinion that the Stratford Electrical Supply Company are aiming) chiefly at securing a license over the Borough. My Council therefore begs to advise you : (1) That the petition under notice does not state the purport of the resolution referred to therein. (2) That the majority of the petitioners are probably unaware of the purport of that resolution. (3) That the petition was taken round for signature by a director of the Stratford Electrical Supply Company. My Council would be pleased to have your-definite assurance that no license affecting the Borough will be issued by the Govern-ment.-—I have the honor to bo, etc., P. SKOGLUND, Town Clerk. Stratford, 11th March, 1914. _
