Mr W.H. Hawkins.

the liberal candidate.

FOR THE STRATFORD SEAT. Tile official announcement was made this morning on behalf of the Progressive Liberal Party that at a meeting of delegates from different parts of the district Mr W. H. Hawkins was unanimously selected as the party’s candidate at the forthcoming election. Mr Hawkins, who is well known throughout the Dominion, having for some time sat in Parliament as member for Pahiatiiji, is now resident in Stratford, being associated) with Mr Lamason’s auctioneering business. He is a forceful public speaker, and is expected to put up a good fight for the seat.

Mr Hawkins was nominated by Mr Joseph McCluggage, who at present is in Wellington for the benefit of his health, and who, but for health reasons, would probably have been selected as the Party’s candidate.

The meeting passed a resolution of sympathy with Mr McCluggage in his illness, and expressed a hope for his speedy recovery.
