FIRE BRIGADE CARNIVAL.

SUCCESSFUL INAUGURATION. As will have been noted in yesterday's issue, the first carnival under the auspices of the Stratford Fire Brigade, held on the Showgrounds yesterday, proved a complete success. All the members of the Brigade worked hard, and a host of lady and gentlemen friends were also indefatigable in their efforts. As was to be expected, proceedings were somewhat slow, but the weather was fine and everybody spent a pleasant day one way or another. The school children performed very well and their march, Maypole and wand drill, was a distinct credit to Miss Papps and Mesdames Moon and Sharp, The Municipal Band rendered excellent selections throughout the day.' Invaluable aid was rendered in the secretarial department by Custodian Burgees and Treasurer A. Moon, without whose help the secretary, Mr George. J. Bradley, could hardly have got, through the mass of work which had to be done.

Following were the stall-bearers: Lucky cake: Miss Croutt and assistant, Mr H. Davis; fairy well,, Mrs Hancock, Misses Wickham and Mercer; lollies, Mesdames Wilson' and Drake, Miss Jans and assistants 5 cocoanut shy, Mr J. .r. East; cakeguessing, Mrs and,., Miss Meßeth ; flower and doll stall, Mesdames. Garrett Wilsoirand Childs and assistants; fruit and produce, Mrs Cameron and a large nuinber of assistants. The financial results of the day's operations is expected to be kighly satisfactory. The Officers.
