[Per Press Association.] Dannevirke, March 6

James Mills, a laborer, was charged before the magistrate with assaulting his wife with intent to do actual bodily ham. On October 18th last accused went home intoxicated. His wife thou went and brought his Sunday beer, but refused to allow accused a drink. Unseating this, Tie pushed his wife, and she foil and broke a leg. She then crawled into the yard to get out of accused’s way, and returned to the house when her husband had gone to bed, and sat in the kitchen until ho woke and lifted her into bed, where she remained until Tuesday, when she was removed to the hospital. Tie wife may never recover from the effects of the injury. Accused Pseaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Christchurch, March 6.

The Hospital Board has been notified of two fresh cases of infantile paralysis in North Canterbury, tins bringing the total number of cases so far reported in that district up to nine. One of the latest cases was in Christchurch, and the other at Opawa.
