♦ —" PEOPLE'S DAY. Although the surprisingly cold change in the weather mitigated against some people attending the Taranaki Show at -New Plymouth jeitiu'day, there was a very large attendance. Later in the clay the keen wind fell, and conditions were mor« pleasant. Stratford was well represented, quite a large contingent' journeying up to the port by special train. The officials did everything possible to make the function a success, and much credit is due to Mr Humphries,* the secretary, and the executive. Ihe grand parade was the feature of the afternoon; seventy head of cattle and eighty horses participated in this. At the head of the cattle was Mr Newton King's magnificent champion bull, "King Fayne Segis," and the rear of the parade was brought up by Mr Birdliiig's pen of three fat Herefords, magnificent specimens of their kind. Mr P. Watson made a most capable marshall. The following are the results of the competitors : Harnessing and unharnessing competition for ladies ; competitor to enter the ring driving a single horse in spring vehicle of two wheels, and, being drawn up in a line by the stewards, at a signal, to drive to a given point, unharness, and harness up again, finishing at the starting point.—May Sole 1, Mrs 11. Hunters' Champion Jumping Competition.— Each horse to not less than 12st., and in the jvtdge's opinion lip to the weight specified.-—H; W. Brewer's '(Hawera) Utility, 1; G. E. Dugald Cup Competition, open to members of the North Taranaki Hunt and Egmont-Wanganui Hunts only. For maiden hunters up to six years of age, and up to 12 stone, that have Qualified to hounds for season 1913, and have not raced in any but hunters' races, nor have won a first prize for jumping at any show. Horses to he ridden by owners.—W. Boyce's (Kapuni), Hero, 1; F. J. Stockman's (Tikorangi), Lady Glad, 2; A. Mitchell's (Manaia); Umaeoa also competed and won, but was disqualified on account of not complying with the aga qualifications. Pony Leaping competitions, for ponies not over /14 hands (to be ridden by a boy or girl under 17). J. D. Mitchell's (Mariaia), Princess 1. Also competed, L. G. Andrew's (Huirangi), Tiny. Leaping Competition (gentl«m»n riders), steeplechase style; each hors» to carry not less than 11 stone. First prize, £ls, second £5, third 10s.— B. H. Chaney's (New Plymouth) Drudgery 1, H. W. Brewer's (Hawera) Utility 2, G. E. Foreman's CKkorangi) Red Gauntlet 3, A. J. Kibby's (Wkjr tara) Victor 4. A protest was entered against the winner on the-ground that his rider was a professional, and was therofore not eligible. The protect was not dacided last night. H. Burke (Lowgarth) got necond prize for best troop horse, up to 14 stone, not exceeding 15.3 hands. Ho also secured' first prize for harness horse over 15.1. "H.'T. "Mellow (Mahoe) was first in the class for harness pony 14.2 hands! or under. Mr Burke's Cliff also gained first prize for best trotting mare or gelding and farmer's light harness horse.
