The deporteds declare their intention of returning to South Africa in idefiance of the Bill. I POUTSMA'S STATEMENT. I CONDITIONS ON THE VOYACE. He denies that he attempted to form a Labor republic. Passengers on the Fmgeni state jthat the deported men were very cheerful on the voyage. The captain treated them with the utmost courtesy. [They had the best of food and entered ! heartily into deck games and frequently sang militant songs, marching the deck until late at night. They appeared to be well supplied with money. The Daily Chronicle says the landing of the deported men was badly stage-managed, and anything but impressive, and was drowned in farce. The rush of eminent Labor leaders to Gravesend was not dignified. The deporteds striking a heroic attitude and then climbing down in order to partake of the fatted calves was an unrehearsed absurdity. Nevertheless, the problem was serious. " ONE DAY'S IMPRISONMENT. AN APPEAL TO PRIVY COUNCIL. London, February 26. Housman and others refused to be i'ound over, and were sentenced to one day's imprisonment. It is rumored the deporteds have entered an appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. A PUBLIC SAFETY BILL. (Received 8.45 a.m.) Capetown, February 26. A Bill providing for the maintenance if. pubile safety in times of actual or apprehended danger was read a first time in the Assembly.
