Benton's Remains.

VILLA IN AUTHORITY. BODY TO BE EXHUMED. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright} [United Press Association.] (Received 8.0 a.m.) Xew York, February 26. The Government is sending a surgeon from El Paso to exhume and examine Benton's remains. AMERICA'S ATTITUDE. London, February 26. Mr Bryan, in conference with the Senate, said the Foreign Relations Committee had pointed out that the foreign nations were supporting the Flirted States' action in Mexico particularly since the Benton case. The Senators held the opinion that the time had not arrived when the Constitutionalists ought to be recognised as belligerents. Mr Bryan urged delaying action over Benton's execution until the investigations established the facts. The American Consular minorities had been instructed to enquire into the alleged execution of an American named Yergara. it was thought likely that the Fnited'States would now rely on General Carran&a, a Constitutionalist leader, to coerce Genera] Villa and return Benton's body. PRESS COMMENT. London, February 26. The Times, in a leader, says the impression is growing in America that General Villa, despite denials, shot Benton with his own hand and on his own account tried Benton by courtmartial. What right, adds the Times. has General Villa to constitute such a court for the trial of foreigners? By the law of nations, General Villa is a private individual, and neither the United States nor any of the other Powers recognise him as a belligerent. Washington, February 25. A correspondent says that whatever the result of the investigation, the Administration does not intend, unless forced, to take an active move to bring General Villa to horfk, and hopes by a miracle to avoid armed intervention.
