OPENING OF THE MEETING. [Per Press Association. ! Trenthani, February 26. The Dominion liifle Association's annual meeting commenced at Trentham to-day. Daylight was ushered in with a southeast wind and rain, and a postponement of the opening proceedings appeared inevitable, but as the day |Wore on the atmospheric conditions improved slightly. The marksmen assembled shortly after 9 o'clock, when Colonel Collins addressed men. ■He said the entries showed a slight increase, and it appeared that tho meeting was on the way to recover its former popularity. Colonel Collins also stated that he hoped if the Empire match wore conducted in Melbourne as had been. suggested, New Zealand would be represented by a team comprised of the first eight in the final fifty for the Belt, and four others would be selected by the committee. The squads then marched to the range, where the classification practice match was commenced. There are 950 entries for the meeting, which comprise a staff of 5, Territorials 61, riflemen 2SS, including 91 - tyros.
