ECHO OF AN OLD CRIME.
POLICE CRAFT IN NEW YORK. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 1.5 p.m.) New York, February 24. A new trial has been granted to Charles Becker, charged with the murder of Herman Rosenthal in July 16, 1912. The conviction of other men invlved was upheld by the Court of AppeaL (A cablegram of that date stated: Herman Rosenthal, a noted gambler, who recently charged the police with extensive “graft” operations, was shot dead in the street. It was alleged that lie was about to reveal scandalous conditions in the Police Department with respect to graft. A man named Louis Hibby was captured and charged with the crime.
