The “Financial Times” states that there are circumstantial rumours on the Stock Exchange that Lever Bros, have declined to start the margarine trade-in Australia. A WELCOME DIVIDEND. (Received 9.45 a.m.) London, February 22. * The Manchester Ship Canal Co. is paying a dividend of 2.1 per cent. This is the first dividend since 1891. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. [Per Press Association.! Wellington, February 23. The High Commissioner’s cable dated February 21st, states, inter ui»:— Butter.—The market is steady with improved demand for Xew Zealand. I or Danish the market is firmer at 121 s to 1245, Xew Zealand 114 s to Hbs. The Australian market is quiet hut steady at 110 sto 112 s. The Argentine and Siberian market is steady at 110 s to 3125. . Cheese.—The market is steady. Prices are well maintained, with a fair demand for Xew Zealand. A small shipment of Australian cheese at Liverpool sold very freely at 64s to 665. The Canad ian market is quiet but
firm. White 69s to 71s, colored 70s to 725. New Zealand white C3s 6d to 04s 6d, colored 60s to 66s 6d.
Wool.—The market for tops is active with good demand. 36’s low crossbreds TT|d, 40's do. 16d, -IPs medium crossbreds 1 (Ed, 50’s half-breds 20d, 56’s quarterbred 22] d, 60’s merinos 28d. LONDON WOOL MARKET.
Mr Newton King has received the following advice re London wool market : —“Bradford market stronger. Tops have advanced Ml to |d. Expect higher prices next sales ; also competition from America.”
