THE STRATFORD PARTY. AN IDEAL TRIP THROUGH OUR HINTERLAND. good HEALTH AND spirits. (Special to “Stratford Post.’’) ' Ohura, eFbruary 21. Last night the Stratford Chamber of Commerce trip into the hinterland may be said to have been well and truly launched. The party, which is composed as follows, arriving safe and sound at Ohura at half-past sax: Messrs Richards (president), \oung and Kirkwood (vice-presidents), Hewitt (secretary), Walter (Stratford County Council), Jennings (ex-M.P.), Fredric (Borough Council), A. M. White and M. Priest (WJhanga), C. E. Pottsj D. Cameron (Stratford), and a “Post” representative. Leaving Stratford by Thursday evening’s train the night was spent at Whanga. Tom Moore had two firehose coaches, starting after eight o’clock. The party had a splendid run via the gorge, the Tangarakau being seen under the most favorable conditions. The weather was ideal ior such a trip, a cool breeze tempering the sun’s rays. At half way, Air Moore, in coming from Ohura, had provided an excellent lunch, and all were, to use a-colloquilism, “making no raco of it. Continuing the journey at 2.55, fast time was made to Ohura. Tins morning the party were taken charge' of by the district settlers and will be driven to Matiere and Otangiwai, returning in the evening for the complimentary, dinner under the local settlers’ auspices. Mr Young continues the journey this afternoon to Okahukawa, where he qatches the train for Auckland. He takes part in one of the rinks at the Exhibition Bowling Tourney. Mr Jennings goes via Tongaporutu to Waitara. Messrs Kirkwood,
Fredric, Potts and Cameron go on
Sunday to Taumarunui and down to , Wanganui. The others are returning to their homes, leaving Ohura early in the morning and viewing the Tekirirna. country. The party are in the best of health and spirits and are delighted with the prospects of the grand country here and looking forward to developments at Matiere, the keen rival of Ohura for the honor of the chief town of the Ohura. The party expect to return to Stratford On Monday afternoon.
