Negotiations Cease.
SYDNEY MEAT STRIKE, NO ROPE OF SETTLEMENT. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright^. [United Press Association.] Sydney, February 20. Mr Fstell shares the keen disappointment of all sides at the masters decision not to accept the proposed terms of settlement. All negotiations have ceased, and there are no immediate prospects ol bringing the parties together. Mi Fstell still hopes for peace, but will wait a couple of days for suggestions I from either side. No move has been made so far. He says the masters and men have made applications for a variation of the amended award for working hours. The masters have allowed their appeal to lapse. The legal position now appears to lie that if tinmen withdraw theirs, an existing award of -ID to 50 hours, according to the class of shop, will become operative, I The Grand Council of the Employees ! Union lias declared that the hides ■find skins of cattle slaughtered by tin masters are “black,” and over three {hundred wool and basil workers have I ceased. | The opinion is freely expressed that (the cold storage tuul other unions will jhe involved. The militant section lof the unionists is talking of a big i strike—a general struggle between capital and organised labor. Tin Employers’ Committee met to-day. .but beyond a general justification of their attitude, no information was available. The masters continued killing opora- | lions to-day. Plenty of free laboi is available, but there is no intention of employing it if the depots and several shops are kept open. The supply appeared to be equal to the demand.
