CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
THE ANNUAL MEETINC. [Per Prkbs Association.] Auckland, Febnw.v 13. The Congregational Union appointed the Rev. W. Saunders to represent! the Union on the Australasian Commission to co-operate with other churches throughout the world in furthering the movement towards various communions of Chrisendom. u was resolved that the Council re' > : es in the growth of sentiment in favor of the abolition of thejiquor traffic from the. Dominion and of the ( >os3i')llifcy of a reduction in the three-fifths majority, and urges members and adherents to do their best in seeking to remove a menace to social and religious life at the forthcoming poll. The council expressed its hearty approval and cooperation in the formation <jf the New Zealand branch of the Associated Council of Churches in the British and German Empires lor fostering friendly relations between those two peoples. It was resolved to recommend the committee of the union to move slowly in the starting of new work in the back-blocks of the Dominion in a new determination to open churches in the towns and cities. The pastors' provident fund was reported to have amounted to £4484. The London Missionary Society stated that the contribution totalled £453 13s 3d. against £BB3 13s during the previous year. Complaint was made that no action had been taken by the Government in the matter of the representations made in regard to a certain CooK Island official having, it was alleged, exceeded his duty. It resolved that the Premier be again interviewed on the subject. Officers wore elected, tho chairman being the Rev. Mr Saunders, and the secretary, the Rev. Mr McKenzie it' stationed at Auckland.
