At Newton, Illinois, when two lads showed cuts and bruises in the Court during th,e trial of four religious enthusiasts belonging to the Holiness Cult—the lads alleging they were illtreated during the church services—the enraged spectators seized Pastor Lyons, beat and kicked him, .-.nd attempted to lynch him. The Sheriff's special force rescued the pastor, but the moo made a second attempt when the men were led off to prison pending an appeal against the fine.
