While travelling fifty miles an hour at Los Angeles, Dave Lewis, an entrant in the Vanderbilt Cup race, lost control of his motor and dashed into the crowd, killing a war veteran and injuring five spectators, three of whom were women. Lewis' condition is serious. He was pinned with the mechanician under the overturned car.
