The local men, who had lost six wickets for 119 runs when play closed yesterday, continued their first innings and knocked up 201, the MeGirr and Robinson partnership being the best, adding 57. When the Australians went in the spectators got a surprise, Southall's bowling proving a knock-out. Armstrong went out first ball, and the team only made 124.. WELLINGTON.—First Innings. On Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon teams representing the Stratford and Whangamomona staffs of the Public Works Department tried conclusions at cricket. The match was enjoyable, though the eastern staff had tho bulk of the cricket talent and won rather easily. The visitors were entertained at tea by the local men before leaving for Whangamomona.
