A special court at Smith Rampur sentenced Govindgar, a self-styled prophet, to death for waging war against the King. Pimya, his chief associate, was sentenced to transportation for life. Govindgar attracted an enormous following and defied the authorities, persuading his disciples he-had power to make them invulnerable against the soldiers’ guns. RAID ON A RESTAURANT. Seven men entered the Tripoli Restaurant in the Italian quarter, and held up diners by a knife held at the throat while their pockets were cleaned out. They took rings and scarf pins and emptied the cash registers. The haul was worth £BOO. The police disturbed the desperadoes, who sought to escape. A guest seized one and was stabbed in the abdomen. The wound is probably mortal. The police made three arrests. STOCKBROKER IN TROUBLE. London, February 12. Fenner,'a stockbroker, was charged with’fraudulontly converting share certificates to the value of £15,000. He was arrested in Paris. The prosecution arises out of bankruptcy proceedings in May last. DISASTROUS DOCK FIRE. Buenos Aires, February 12. A dock fire caused damage to the extent of £35,000 in oils, spirits and 1 merchandise.
THE MURDER OF GASCYOFF. St. Petersburg, February 12. Goutcharuk, a peasant, has been arrested for murdering the boy Josef Pasgyoff at Fastoff. There were thirteen puncture marks on the neck similar to the wounds on Zushinsky. The police state the boy was a Christian who was stolen a ml circumcised. MAHOUD’S ASSASSINS. Constantinople, February 12. The cosn-t martial sentenced Sadik Bey to death and Hodjasabre Basri Bey to life imprisonment in connection with Mahoud Pasha’s assassination.
