The General Election.

MR J. B. HIKE’S OPPONENT. AN UNKNOWN QUANTITY. On Thursday evening a meeting of members of the Stratford Liberal League decided on a’ plan of organisation for the forthcoming general election, and last night a meeting of delegates from the various branches of the League was held for the purpose of selecting a candidate to stand in the Liberal interest. Mr Joseph McCluggage, who was nominated by the party at last general election, was again asked to offer his services to the electors. He at first declined, but was prevailed upon to reconsider his decision, and he pro- / mised to give a definite answer in a month’s time. There are other aspirants for the seat, who are prepared to place themselves unreservedly in the hands of a meeting of the party.
