AMUSEMENTS.
THE NORWOODS. A crowded house witnessed la?t night’s performance by the above company. After much pressing and coaxing, Professor Norwood obtained the services of" five or six local residents on the stage. Under the influence of hypnotic suggestion, tlie “subjects” performed some very funny tricks, including a scene in a ballroom, an auctioneer selling a cow. a motor car, a racehorse and a piano, the; various acts being all “jumbled up” together. In the ballroom act. the young men are introduced do some supposedly very pretty ladies, and they lix up their ties, brush their clothes, and smile as pleasantly as possible, but when they are awakened from the trance and find themselves hugging a chair, the expression on their faces is very different and rather difficult to describe. Miss Winifred Norwood successfully went through the several tests given her by the audience. These included tying a knot in a watchchain and catching a fellow by the ear and making him bow to. the audience.
To-night the Professor will put on a boxing contest if sufficient subjects are offering. He also stated last night that lie would put on the minstrel troupe and the monkey show cn the same conditions. As this will bo the last opportunity of witnessing tiio clever performances of Professor Norwood and his company in Stratford, there should be a big crowd present at the Town Hall. HIS MAJESTY’S PICTURES. Last night’s new series were highly appreciated by a fairly large aucaence. The star drama, “Brennan, of the Moors,” proved to lie a Sol ax masterpiece; every inch of the famous Irish outlaw picture being a work of art. 'Max Linder, as a musician, created great laughter, the Frencii comedian being at his best. On Monday an entirely new change takes place. “The Black Circle” is a thrilling story of the exploits of a gang of expert thieves. Vivian \ ano gambles at his club, and loses heavily to Guy Molyneux. He is unable to pay, ami when Molyneux visits I him, more in jest than in earnest Vivian tolls his persecutor that there is nothing left for him but to join the Black Circle Gang, Molyneux seizes upon the despairing remarks and says he can show him the way. Vivian is initiated that night, and is soon elected to carry out a robbery. Ho sees his mother’s portrait looking down upon him, and determines to refuse the task and leave the country. He arrives in Chicago, with letters of introduction to Arnos Brown, a millionaire farmer out West, and soon gets work on a farm. Ho marries his daughter Edith. Meanwhile, the detective is on the scent of the Black Circle, and all are captured but Molyneux, the leader. He goes to America, and discovers Vivian, whom he threatens to expose unless he gives him money, which ho refuses to do. In revenge, the blackmailer abducts Edith, -hut Vivian and the cowboys rescue her, .‘hut Molyneux escapes and throws himself over a | precipice, and is killed.
