The many friends of Miss F. Hill, late assistant , .teacher at Whanga chool, in view ; of, hey. approaching
marriage, gave a kitchen tea on Tuesday night at the residence of Mr* S. M. Mills. A very enjoyable evening of music, games, etc., was spent by a boisterously meyry party, r gJud Miss Hill was presented with a wondrous and varied collection of kitchen utenils enough to make many a veteran housewife’s eyes sparkle with eney. Mr F. M. Grayling, of New Plymouth, paid a visit on Wednesday to Whanga by motor car, on business in connection with some bridge contracts in the district.
The metalling of the main road was brought to mind, again on Wednesday by the'arrival from outside of bullock teams and drays, which are to play a prominent part in the distributing of the metal from the railway yards to the road. Provided the weather is favorable, a good stretch of road, if not all of it, will be under metai before winter.
The School Committee called a public meeting on Tuesday night to make arrangements for the children’s concert on Friday night, and the school picnic tq New Plymouth jbn Tuesday, February 17th. There was a fair attendance, and full arrangements were made to ensure the success of both gatherings. For a real live working School Committee, our local one would he hard to beat anywhere, time and money have been given unsparingly to give the younger generation the best possible under country conditions.
Mr W. Willis, of Kohuratahi, on Wednesday trucked a fine line of breeding ewes to a Stratford buyer. Mr B. Pi ■ior lias received from a prominent Manawatu breeder fifteen high-grade Romney rams for his farm on Whanga Road.
